Mattaponi Canoe & Kayak provides rentals of both canoes and kayaks. We use only high quality paddling equipment built by the paddlesport industy's leading manufacturers.

Our canoe fleet consists of 17 foot Mad River Horizons. Made of Royalex plastic, they are strong yet light. Ideal as a downriver canoe, their shallow rocker and relatively sharp entry makes them well suited for use on the upper reaches of our tidally influenced rivers.

Our kayak fleet includes Perception Acadias. These are solo craft with an open cockpit. At approximately 12.5 feet in length and 27 inches in width, the Acadia provides good stability for the novice without sacrificing performance and efficiency sought by the more experienced paddler. The Acadia is ideally suited for the tidal rivers and marshes of Virginia's Middle Peninsula, but performs very nicely on non-tidal sections of the Pamunkey and Mattaponi Rivers as well.

The costs for the day rental of a canoe is $45, kayaks $25. Our rental fee includes life jackets, paddles, a brief orientation to paddling "do's" and "dont's" and a shuttle to the Zoar Nature Trail put-in on the Mattaponi River. There is an additional fee for shuttles to other locations depending on distances travelled.
